HP Celebrates 20 years of innovation in the Retail and Hospitality Industry with next-generation platform

Andrew Medlin, Senior Director of HP Retail and Industry Solutions

June 13, 2023

It’s been two decades since HP launched its first dedicated retail point-of-sale (POS) platform, the HP rp5000, on June 6, 2003, and today we are excited to announce the 5th generation of this platform, the HP Engage Flex Pro G2 & HP Engage Flex Pro-C G2. While plenty has changed about this platform over the last 20 years, like the name, the additional size option, and of course the evolving technology inside the box, there are core aspects of this platform that have remained unchanged, including the flexible and reliable design and the long lifecycle.

Twenty years ago, the HP rp5000 provided businesses with the best of both worlds by combining the price and performance of a traditional desktop PC with the features and functionalities of a POS system. The rp5000 and the generations that followed provided a wide range of businesses with the flexibility of an industry-standard PC-based architecture, enhanced peripheral support, ruggedized chassis and components, and a 10-year total purchasing and support lifecycle combined with the economies of scale that HP has in the PC market.

Fast forward 20 years and today we are announcing the 5th generation of the rp5000 platform, the HP Engage Flex Pro G2, and the slightly smaller option, HP Engage Flex Pro-C G2. They remain the stable, secure, high-performance platforms with outstanding flexibility that they’ve always been, and suitable for a wide range of deployments that span POS, digital signage, video surveillance, store controller, OEM, and more.  Both platforms offer a choice of operating systems1 and have the power to run multiple applications simultaneously with 13th Gen Intel® Core™ processors2.

With multiple connectivity, graphics, and networking options, and the ability to accommodate a range of peripherals, this powerful platform can be configured to meet your needs now and grow with you into the future. The Engage Flex Pro & Pro-C also allows you to declutter and optimize tight spaces with the ability to power the HP 14t and HP 16t displays directly from the platform via a USB-C® cable.

Spend more time focusing on your business, not on technology with a platform that is designed to withstand harsh environments and passes HP’s Total Test Process3. Enjoy automatic firmware intrusion detection and repair from day one with HP Sure Start Gen 74 and reduce the cost and complexity of managing your platform with the HP Manageability Integration Kit4.

Planned for early 2024, customers will have the option to gain even more control over their Engage Flex Pro & Pro-C platforms with HP’s new remote management solution, HP Anywhere Remote System Controller. 5 Customers will be able to connect to the device and perform out-of-band management tasks such as pre-boot access, BIOS updates, and re-imaging—from anywhere, without compromising control.

Similar to the original rp5000, Flex Pro G2 platforms will include a five-year lifecycle that provides customers with flexibility in their rollout schedules, and we will also offer extended protection with optional 3- or 5-year parts/service support6.

We are so proud to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the rp5000 and look forward to many more years to come as we work to deliver the very best quality and innovation to our customers.
